Herrera Takes West Regionals Lead

Apr 9, 2022

BOULDER – The University of Colorado track and field senior Eduardo Herrera led the Buffs here Saturday on the final day of the 2022 Colorado Invitational, winning the men's 1,500 in an altitude converted top-five NCAA time.

Herrera, who battled strong winds all day, won the men's 1,500 in 3:44.46. He not only won the race by eight seconds, but with altitude conversion his mark translates to 3:39.11 which betters the previous NCAA West-leading time of 3:40.50 set by Oklahoma State's Fouad Messaoudi. His mark is good for fourth in the NCAA before today.

The top mark for CU men in terms of CU history belonged to Noah Bouchard today in the men's high jump. The freshman won the meet with a jump of 2.12 meters (6-11.5), moving him to a tie for sixth in CU history. It was an extraordinary day for the high jumpers as Kylee Harr took the women's title with a personal best 1.81 meters (5-11.25) which moves her into a tie for fourth in CU history. This is the second weekend in a row that Harr has cleared 1.80 meters.

The Buffs won a total of 13 competitions today, including the men's 400 hurdles where the men swept the podium. Aaron McCoy won the race in 50.95 seconds, followed by Garrett Nelson in 51.89 and Eli Heitmann in 54.11.

In the men's 100-meter dash, Luc Andrada won the sprint in a wind-legal 10.46 seconds, moving him into eighth in CU history. He also joined up in the men's 4x1 that took the title in 40.95 seconds.

The women's 4x1 squad won their race as well in 45.67 seconds, good for eighth in CU history. Two members of the squad picked up wins with Abbey Glynn winning the 400 hurdles in 58.34 seconds, while Jaida Drame won the open 400 in 55.44 seconds. Glynn was joined by freshman Emma Pollak in the hurdle race, finishing second in 59.25 seconds to better her seventh-best mark in CU history.

Two other CU women won races today with Avery McMullen winning a pair. She bettered her eighth-best mark in CU history in the 100 hurdles with a winning time of 13.61 seconds, then doubled back in the 200 to win in 24.60 seconds. Madie Boreman opened the winning for the women in the 1,500, taking the title in 4:29.25 which converts to 4:22.83 seconds.

The CU men closed out the meet by winning the 4x400-meter relay in 3:14.45 seconds.

The Buffs head to southern California next weekend to compete in the Mt. SAC Relays, Bryan Clay Invitational and Beach Invitational. Colorado will also send athletes up to CSU to compete in the Doug Max Invitational.
