Team Red Repeats with 2022 Spring Game Victory
TUCSON, Ariz. — A late charge by Team Blue wasn't enough as Team Red held on for a 24-21 victory in the 2022 Arizona Spring Game on Saturday afternoon.
Team Blue's late comeback attempt was highlighted by fourth-quarter touchdown passes from Women's Basketball's Sam Thomas and standout freshman wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan.
The afternoon featured numerous notable plays, including a 90-yard pick six by sophomore safety Jaxen Turner and a 20-yard completion by McMillan to quarterback Jordan McCloud on a trick play.
Victorious Team Red was coached by Lance Briggs and Mike Candrea, while Team Blue was led into the game by Tedy Bruschi and Adia Barnes.
Blue opened the scoring with a seven-yard toss from McCloud to tight end Keyan Burnett, however Red quickly responded on defense two drives later with Turner's 90-yard interception return to even the score.
The next two scores belonged to Red on a 45-yard field goal from Tyler Loop and an 8-yard touchdown pass from Noah Fifita to AJ Jones and they never looked back, leading the remainder of the way.
