No. 3 UCLA Sweeps Oregon, 5-0

STANFORD, Calif. -- No. 3 UCLA (24-2) opened the second day of competition at the Pac-12 North Invitational with a 5-0 sweep of Oregon (9-13) on Sunday morning at Stanford's Graduate School of Business Courts. UCLA improved to 5-0 all-time against the Ducks with its 11th sweep of the season.

Lexy Denaburg and Abby Van Winkle put the Bruins up 1-0 with a 21-14, 26-28, 15-11 win on court one over the Ducks' Reagan Hope and Brooke Nuneviller.

Tessa Van Winkle and Peri Brennan improved to 3-0 on the season but had to rally for a 26-28, 21-16, 15-10, win on court four over Oregon's Ella Tyus and Ashley Schroeder to put UCLA up 2-0.

UCLA's Devon Newberry and Jaden Whitmarsh improved to 20-2 on the year (4-1 on court two) with a 21-11, 21-16, win over Daley McClellan and Madelyn LaFollette to clinch the dual win for the Bruins.

Lea Monkhouse and Jessie Smith paired with each other for the second time this season and defeated Oregon's Alex Laita and Bea Wetton in straight sets 21-16, 21-16, to put UCLA up 4-0.

Marlie Monserez paired with Rileigh Powers for the second time this season and had little trouble with Savannah Siegrist and Ally Haden, 21-9, 21-11, on court five to complete the sweep.

In exhibition play, UCLA's Pani Napoleon and Katie Hashman were leading but saw their match truncated against Zoe Almanza and Batia Rotshtein, 21-15, 15-11.

The Bruins return to action later today when they take on Washington at 2:00 p.m. on the Pac-12 Networks. Next week (Apr. 15-16) the Bruins travel to San Luis Obispo, Calif. to compete in the Center of Effort Challenge Cal Poly's Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex. UCLA will open with No. 4 Florida State at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
