Oregon State Drops Series Finale with Arizona, Escobar hits First Career Home Run

Apr 10, 2022

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Conference hit leader, freshman Kiki Escobar, went yard in Oregon State softball's setback to Arizona in the series finale of the Pac-12 weekend Sunday. Despite the loss, the Beavers took the series over Arizona for the first time since the 2013 campaign.

The Beavers (31-9, 7-5 Pac-12) snapped its six-game winning streak and gave up the most runs since Arizona State on March 20 in that weekend series finale. OSU has still outscored its opponents in its last seven games 32-12.

Freshman Sarah Haendiges suffered her third loss of the season, allowing four runs, five hits and struck out one. Freshman Ainsley Lambert made her first appearance in the circle, pitching the final three innings with four strikeouts.

Freshmen Eliana Gottlieb and Erin Mendoza collected the other hits for the Orange & Black on the day.

Arizona broke through with four runs in the second before scattering a run in the third, three in the fourth and the final run in the fifth frame. Escobar got one back in the bottom of the third for the Beavers.

Oregon State hits the road next weekend for a series at No. 11 Washington. The three-game Pac-12 clash is set to begin on Friday, April 14 at 5 p.m. and continues on Saturday, April 15 at 6 p.m. The series finale is slated for Sunday, April 16 at 2 p.m. All games will be available on the Pac-12 Networks.
