Nathan Martorella Named Pac-12 Player Of The Week

Apr 11, 2022
Nathan Martorella was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week for the first time in his career following a big week at the plate.

SAN FRANCISCO – California junior first baseman Nathan Martorella was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week for April 4-10 by the conference office on Monday afternoon.

Martorella led Cal to a 3-1 week that included a critical Pac-12 series victory over Washington by slashing .526/.550/1.158 with seven extra-base hits – two home runs, four doubles and one triple – in 19 at bats while scoring eight times and driving in six runs. The left-handed slugger delivered go-ahead hits in both of Cal's victories against Washington, smacking a two-run home run in the seventh inning of a 6-3 win in game two on Saturday and doubling home the go-ahead run in the fourth inning of their series-clinching 14-5 win on Sunday.

The Salinas, California native has been on a torrid stretch at the plate lately with multiple hits in seven of the past 10 games. He's batting .331 with a team-high 13 doubles to go along with three home runs and 21 RBI on the season.

It is the first conference honor of Martorella's career. He'll look to stay hot as the Bears play their fourth game in as many days at 3 p.m. PDT today against Saint Mary's in Moraga, California.
