Busy weekend ahead for Oregon State

Apr 12, 2022

Corvallis, Ore. – A big weekend is in store for the Oregon State women's track and field team, as it heads to Southern California and Portland to compete in three meets.

Some of the squad will head to Long Beach, Calif., for the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate on Thursday and the Beach Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Both meets will be contested at Jack Rose Track at Long Beach State.

"It's been a rough spring for weather in the Northwest, so Long Beach is a great opportunity for us to compete in good weather," OSU head coach Louie Quintana said. "With two meets, there are a lot of opportunities to double, great chances to better their marks.

"That's the big thing, to go through a two-day meet like the Pac-12 championships will be," at Hayward Field in Eugene next month. "Navigating a prelim and a final" will be great preparation for the Pac-12s.

"Our javelin crew (Isabelle Esler, Jazlyn Romero) is throwing well and it will be nice to see what they can do in good conditions. Our high jumpers (Emma Nelson, Savannah Reilly, Lara Denbow) are doing a great job and I'm looking for them to continue their momentum."

The distance crew will compete on Saturday at the Lewis & Clark Invitational at the Eldon Fix Track at Griswold Stadium. No field event competitors are entered.

"At Lewis and Clark, just navigating difficult weather again with our distance women" will be the biggest challenge, Quintana said. "We'll run some off-distances, some 800s and do some things to work on our speed.

"The 800 will be our premier event this weekend. Kaylee Mitchell, Grace Fetherstonhaugh and Mari Friedman will run fresh, so we will see what they can do."
