SAN FRANCISCO – For the third time this season, Husky standout Clement Chidekh was named the Pac-12 Men's Tennis Player of the Week by the conference office. Chidekh (Lyon, France) ran his dual match record to 13-0 this season with three victories over ranked Pac-12 opponents in four days.
Chidekh, ranked sixth nationally in the most recent ITA poll, defeated the No. 1 players for Oregon, Stanford, and California last Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, respectively.
Starting in Seattle last Wednesday, Chidekh led a 4-0 Husky victory over the Ducks with a 6-2, 6-0 win over 90th-ranked Joshua Charlton. He also added a 6-2 doubles win with Nedim Suko.
On Friday on the road at Stanford, the Huskies came up short against the 14th-ranked Cardinal, but Chidekh exacted a bit of revenge at No. 1, as he defeated No. 110 Axel Geller, 6-3, 7-5. Geller beat Chidekh twice at No. 1 singles a year ago
In the third match in four days, Chidekh beat Cal's 105th-ranked Yuta Kikuchi, 6-2, 6-3, although the Huskies were unable to put away the Bears in a 4-3 loss. Chidekh had another doubles win with Suko at Cal, helping the Huskies take the doubles point.
Adding in his fall results, Chidekh is now 24-3 for the year. Washington sits at 15-8 and 2-4 in Pac-12 play and will be looking to bolster its NCAA prospects in its final two home matches this week, hosting Arizona State this Friday, Apr. 15, and 13th-ranked Arizona on Sunday, Apr. 17.
