Herrera Captures Pac-12 Men’s Track Athlete Of The Week
SAN FRANCISCO – Colorado track and field senior Eduardo Herrera was named the Pac-12 Men's Track Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday morning.
Herrera led the Buffs at the Colorado Invitational, winning the 1,500-meter run in 3:44.46, more than eight seconds faster than the next fastest runner. His altitude converted time of 3:39.11 leads the NCAA West Region and is fourth in the NCAA.
Herrera becomes just the fourth CU male athlete to earn the honor, joining Joe Klecker, Joe Morris and Alex Kizirian. He is the 10th CU athlete to earn the honor since joining the Pac-12 and earns the Buffs 13th honor.
This is the first time that Colorado has had back-to-back Pac-12 Athletes of the Week in track and field. Abby Nichols was named the Women's Track Pac-12 Athlete of the Week last weekend and still leads the NCAA in the women's 5,000.
The Buffaloes have a total of 25 marks in the top-45 in the NCAA West currently. Colorado will look to build on that this weekend with a trio of meets in California along with a meet at CSU Saturday.
