U.S. Lacrosse Magazine Selects Carley Adams as National Player of the Week
SPARKS, Md. – Sun Devil Lacrosse's Carley Adams was named the U.S. Lacrosse Magazine National Player of the Week, the publication announced on Tuesday.
Adams becomes just the third player in program history to win a National Weekly Award and the first to receive it from U.S. Lacrosse Magazine. A Sun Devil has now won a National Player of the Week honor in back-to-back weeks, with Taylor Pinzone receiving the distinction from Inside Lacrosse only eight days ago.
It has been quite the week for Adams, who was also recently named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week for the third time in her career.
"Carley is a tremendous leader and lives our core values through and through," Assistant Coach Nicole Graziano remarked. "She loves the game and has so much fun playing Sun Devil Lacrosse. Never shy to make a joke and make everyone laugh, she's a positive player who gets better everyday and consistently makes her teammates better. "Grandma Crit" has played at ASU since year one and has been instrumental in creating the foundation of this program! I'm excited to continue to enjoy each moment we have together with Sun Devil Lacrosse."
Carley Adams – U.S. Lacrosse Magazine Player of the Week
Attacker Carley Adams was unstoppable in leading the Sun Devils to a 2-0 record, garnering national attention in the process. During the Bay Area sweep, Adams scored five goals on Friday and dished out five assists on Sunday, the only Pac-12 player in the with a five-goal and five-assist game this weekend. She showed off her ability to both score and facilitate, causing opposing defenses problems and making it impossible to gameplan for the Sun Devils.
On Friday in the program's first win over No. 22 Stanford, Adams was in the middle of everything, finishing with six points (five goals). She took over the game at several points, making a stingy Stanford defense pay for one-on-one coverage. Adams relished a completely different role on Sunday, becoming the main distributor in Arizona State's win over Cal. She dished out a career-best five assists and delivered another six point performance. She now has 10 games with five or more goals and 13 games with five or more points in her career. On the weekend, Adams finished with 12 points (six goals and six assists) in the program's first-ever sweep of Stanford and Cal.
