Wildcats in the NBA - Recapping 2021-22 Regular Season

With the 2021-22 NBA regular season officially in the books, we take a look at how former Arizona players fared this season and who will be advancing on to the playoffs.

Deandre Ayton ? Phoenix Suns (1st in the West)
2021-22 Season Stats: 58 games, 58 starts, 29.6 mpg, 17.2 ppg, 10.2 rpg, 63.4% FG, 74.6% FT
Notes: In his fourth season in the NBA – all with the Suns, he has helped Phoenix amass the best record in the NBA (64-18) and set a new franchise record for wins in a season … his 63.4% shooting from the floor this season would be a career-high … Will be making his second straight appearance in the NBA playoffs after taking Phoenix to the NBA finals last year.
 
Aaron Gordon ? Denver Nuggets (6th in the West)
2021-22 Season Stats: 75 games, 75 starts, 31.7 mpg, 15.0 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 2.5 apg, 52.0% FG, 33.5% 3FG
Notes: In his eighth season in the NBA, and first full season in Denver after being traded midway through the 2020-21 season … helped the Nuggets earn the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference Playoffs despite playing without two of their primary players in Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. … his 52.0% shooting would be a career-best.
 
Josh Green ? Dallas Mavericks (4th in the West)
2021-22 Season Stats: 67 games, 3 starts, 15.5 mpg, 4.8 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 1.2 apg, 50.8% FG, 35.9% 3FG
Notes: Played his way into an important bench role down the stretch of the regular season as he wraps up his second season in the NBA – both with the Mavericks … he has set career highs in nearly ever statistical category … has played in one career playoff game for a total of four minutes.
 
Solomon Hill ? Atlanta Hawks/New York Knicks
2021-22 Season Stats: 13 games, 1 start, 10.7 mpg, 0.6 ppg, 1.8 rpg 0.9 apg (all with Atlanta
Notes: Playing in his ninth NBA season, and second straight with Atlanta … suffered a torn hamstring injury in early December and missed the remainder of the 2021-22 season … was traded to the New York Knicks in January and was then waived by the Knicks.
 
Andre Iguodala ? Golden State Warriors (3rd in the West)
2021-22 Season Stats: 31 games, 19.5 mpg, 4.0 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 3.7 apg, 0.9 spg
Notes: Is playing in his 18th NBA season at the age of 38 … this season will mark the 15th year competing in the NBA playoffs … his 75.0% shooting from the free throw line would mark his best in a season since 82.0% in 2006-07.
 
Stanley Johnson ? Los Angeles Lakers (11th in the West)
2021-22 Season Stats: 48 games, 27 starts, 22.8 mpg, 6.7 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 1.7 apg, 0.9 spg
Notes: In his seventh NBA season and first with the Los Angeles Lakers … signed with the Chicago Bulls prior to the start of the 2021-22 season but was waived in October … then signed a 10-day contract with the Bulls on Dec. 10 (but DNP) followed by back-to-back 10-day contract with the Los Angeles Lakers in January … eventually signed a full contract with the Lakers in late January … shot 46.6% from the floor, easily the best of his career … also shot 57.5% on 2-point field goals, also the best of his career.
 
Lauri Markkanen ? Cleveland Cavaliers (8th in the East)
2021-22 Season Stats: 61 games, 61 starts, 30.8 mpg, 14.8 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 1.3 apg, 44.5% FG, 35.8% 3FG, 86.8% FT
Notes: In his fifth NBA season and first with the Cavaliers after signing with them as a free agent prior to the 2021-22 season … will take part in the Play-In Tournament in the Eastern Conference with a chance to advance to the playoffs for the first time in his career.
 
T. J. McConnell ? Indiana Pacers (13th in the East)
2021-22 Season Stats: 27 games, 8 starts, 24.1 mpg, 8.5 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 4.9 apg, 1.1 spg
Notes: In his seventh NBA season and third with the Pacers … missed 55 straight games from December through April with a wrist injury, but did return for the team's final two games of the regular season.
 
Zeke Nnaji ? Denver Nuggets (6th in the West)
2021-22 Season Stats: 41 games, 1 start, 6.6 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 51.6% FG, 46.3% 3FG
Notes: In his second NBA season with the Nuggets, he will be making his second straight playoff appearance … improved his scoring per game from 3.2 ppg last year to 6.6 this season while also playing eight minutes more per game.
 
Brandon Williams ? Portland Trail Blazers (13th in the West)
2021-22 Season Stats: 24 games, 16 starts, 26.7 mpg, 12.9 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 3.9 apg, 1.0 spg
Notes: He made his NBA debut in December with the Trail Blazers and then signed a two-way deal with the team in February … scored a season-high 27 points at Minnesota on March 7 … has six games with 20+ points.
 
Gabe York ? Indiana Pacers (13th in the East)
2021-22 Season Stats: 2 games, 10.5 mpg, 4.0 ppg, 1.0 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.0 spg
Notes: Made his NBA debut on April 9 after playing with the Pacers G-League affiliate in Fort Wayne for majority of the season.
