Cats Finish Bay Area Trip In Tie For Eighth
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – Arizona Men's Golf finished the Western Intercollegiate with an 18-over par final round to finish the event in a tie for eighth place at +67 over par. Junior Chase Sienkiewicz was Arizona's best individual finisher at 3-over par, which put him in a tie for fifth for the tournament. The Wildcats ended the event on a high note with five birdies as a team on the final hole that was Pasatiempo Golf Club's the 502-yard, par-5, ninth hole.
"We were not able to capitalize on the momentum we had built during the first two days of the tournament," said head coach Jim Anderson. "It was great to see Chase tally another top-5 finish this season as he continues to play some of his best golf. There were a lot of positives we can take away from our week here in the Bay Area that will continue to help us prepare for Pac-12 Championships and beyond."
Sienkiewicz's fifth-place finish marked his fourth top-10 showing this season and fifth of his career. It is also the second-highest finish of his career behind his runner-up performance at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational in the fall. Freshman Johnny Walker posted the team's second-best score of the week at 14-over, which put him a tie for 36th.
Arizona will begin postseason play when it returns to the course for the Pac-12 Championships. The Wildcats, who are the defending conference champions, will tee off the three-day event on Monday, April 25 from the Aldarra Golf Club in Sammamish, Washington.
