NORMAN, OKLA. – Although the 2022 season has been marked by occurrences both high and low for California men's gymnastics, the primary emotion that envelops the team is pride as the Golden Bears prepare to close out their season at the NCAA Championships on April 15-16, hosted by Oklahoma in Norman, Okla.

"I'm always impressed with how well the guys perform," said head coach J.T. Okada. "It's hard to describe just how difficult it is to do what they do."

The ninth-seeded Bears are competing in Session I of the Qualifying Round on Friday, which begins at 11:00 a.m. PT at the Lloyd Noble Center. For Cal to advance to Saturday's final, they will have to place in the top three as a team. Individuals can advance if they place in the top three of competitors in each event who have not yet qualified as part of a team.

"It's great to have a day before the competition to scope out the setup and get a feel for the equipment," said sophomore Collin Cunane. "Even little things can change from venue to venue, so being able to practice ahead of time is huge for us."

The Bears have not competed at the Lloyd Noble Center since 2015, the last time that Oklahoma hosted the NCAA Championships. At that time, they were unable to fill out the maximum championship roster size of 15 – a testament to how far the program has come since then.
