Multis Post Strong Day Ones At Mt. SAC
SEATTLE -- Washington's multi-event quartet put together solid first days in their first heptathlon and decathlon competitions of the outdoor season at the Mt. SAC Relays at Hilmer Lodge Stadium. All-American Ida Eikeng led the way, and leads the competition, through four events of the heptathlon. The multis are setting the stage for a big week at four different meets in Southern California. The full list of Huskies in action at each meet is below.
Eikeng finished day one with 3,598 points, finishing first or second in all four of the events. She opened with a 13.72 time in the 100m hurdles, and then got a PR in the high jump with a clearance of 5-7 3/4. Eikeng, fifth in the heptathlon at NCAA Outdoors a year ago, won the shot put at 42-8 3/4, and then won the 200-meters in a wind-aided 24.09 seconds.
Hannah Rusnak is currently ninth with 3,303 points. She opened with a 14.08 time in the 100m hurdles, then high jumped 5-4 1/4. Rusnak launched a new shot put career-best of 42-7 to take second to Eikeng, and she closed day one going 25.53 in the 200-meters.
In the men's decathlon, Ollie Thorner and Jami Schlueter navigated the first five. Thorner and Schlueter, both U.K. natives, scored 3,857 points and 3,679 points, respectively.
Thorner opened with a 100m legal wind PR of 10.99 seconds, then long jumped 21-11 1/2. He set a shot put PR of 42-6 on his third attempt, then made 6-3 1/2 in the high jump. Thorner closed with a major 400-meters PR of 49.08, well under his previous career-best of 49.77.
The freshman Schlueter ran 11.11 in the 100-meters then had a long jump of 22-5. He also PR'd in the shot put at 42-4, and made 6-1 1/4 in the high jump, and finished up running 51.91 in the quarter mile.
