Ranked Opponents, Senior Day Await Ducks in Final Homestand

Apr 14, 2022

EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon women's lacrosse has a consequential weekend planned for its final two home games, both on and off the field.

In addition to squaring off with two ranked foes in No. 23 Arizona State and No. 17 USC, Oregon has a packed weekend with a special guest joining the team on Friday and a senior day celebration set for Sunday.

On Friday, the Ducks will welcome Doernbecher Freestyle Program participant Zoe Taaffe as an honorary captain. The Ducks will be wearing a warmup shirt that Zoe designed and she will join the team throughout their pre-game routine.

The Doernbecher Freestyle Program joins Doernbecher patient-designers with Nike visionaries to create footwear and apparel collections, all to benefit OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital. Learn more about Zoe and the program HERE.

Oregon will celebrate its six graduating players (Brooke Rooney, Lily Shalz, Shonly Wallace, Lillian Stump, Sydney Lawrence and Abby Buczek) as well as senior manager Erin Freer pregame on Sunday. Fans are encouraged to arrive early with the ceremony set to begin around 12:50 p.m.

The Ducks and Sun Devils have squared off six times since ASU started its lacrosse program in 2018. Oregon is 2-4 in those games with wins in the first two contests and losses in the last four. This will be the first game in Papé Field in three years after last season's game in Eugene was canceled due to Covid protocols. The two teams met earlier this season with Arizona State earning an 11-9 win in Tempe. Cassidy Eckert posted a career-high 14 saves in that contest and Bailey Smith tallied her first career hat trick.
Oregon and USC have played 13 times since the Trojans started playing lacrosse in 2013. The two teams were members of the MPSF before the Pac-12 had enough teams to sponsor the sport. USC leads the series 10-3 including wins in the last five games. Oregon's last win over a ranked team was April 8, 2018 when the Ducks knocked off the No. 16 Trojans 18-11 in Eugene.
Oregon got a boost over the summer when Lillian Stump decided to return for one more season. She enjoyed a senior surge in 2021, finishing second on the team in goals (23) and points (33) and continued her strong play in 2022. Stump has scored 22 goals in 12 games and could become the 11th player in school history to score 100 goals with 7 more in her final season.
» Entered Sunday's game tied for the team lead in assists (8) and third in points (30)
» Scored 10+ goals in each of the last four seasons and 20+ goals in three of the last four
» Totaled a career-high 7 points (4 goals, 3 assists) against San Diego State (2/27/22)
Senior defender Sydney Lawrence has wreaked havoc for opposing offenses this season. In her fourth season with the team, the Plano, Texas-native has found a role on the UO defense where she can force opponents to plenty of mistakes. She ranks second in the Pac-12 in caused turnovers (15) and caused turnovers per game (1.50).
