Cougs End Day One of the Big Ten Invitational

SARASOTA, Fla. – The No. 19-ranked Washington State rowing team saw its second varsity four boat pick up a win in its second race of the afternoon to highlight the first day of racing for the Cougars at the Big Ten Invitational.

The No. 19 Cougars won the 2V4+ race with a time of 7:32.928 to finish a head of No. 8 Ohio State, Minnesota, and Dartmouth. WSU won the race by 3.3 seconds over the No. 8 Buckeyes.

The 2V4+'s performance kick-started a strong afternoon of rowing for the Cougars at the Big Ten Invitational. Washington State finished second in the 1V8+ and 2V8+ races, while the Cougs took third in the 1V4+ race to cap off their first day at Nathan Benderson Park.

WSU's 1V8+ boat posted a time of 6:35.870 to finish second in its afternoon race at the Big Ten Invitational. The Cougars finished 3.93 seconds behind the No. 8-ranked Buckeyes, while finishing 5.03 seconds ahead of third-place Minnesota and 15.587s ahead of Dartmouth.

The 2V8+ boat also claimed a second-place finish in its afternoon heat, as the Cougars clocked in at 6:46.530. The 1V4+ boat ended Friday's set of races for Washington State, as they finished third with a time of 7:39.621.

Washington State opened the Big Ten Invitational with a set of races against No. 6 Michigan, No. 12 Virginia, and No. 17 Rutgers this morning. The Cougars finished fourth in all four heats they competed in to open the regatta.

The second day of the Big Ten Invitational takes place Saturday, April 16, at Nathan Benderson Park. WSU's first race is set to begin at 6:10 a.m. PT. Fans can follow along with live results by clicking the link here.
