Oregon knocked off No. 17 Arizona at the Pac-12 North Invitational (April 9) for the program's first-ever win over a ranked opponent. With a 2-0 lead in hand, the Ducks clinched the upset with a three-set win (14-21, 21-11, 15-10) on court four by Ashley Schroeder and Ella Tyus. With the victory, Oregon also set a new program record for match wins (nine) in a single season.
Last Time Out
The Ducks closed out the Pac-12 North Invitational (April 10) with a pair of 5-0 losses to UCLA and USC, two of the top-three ranked teams in the country. Looking to secure a point against either for the first time in program history, Oregon forced a pair of three setters at No. 1 and 4 pairs against UCLA. Oregon tallied a 1-3 weekend record during the two-day conference event.
By the Numbers
At the top of the UO lineup, Reagan Hope and Brooke Nuneviller lead the team with an 11-8 record this season. Four of the duo's losses have come in three sets. The team of Alex Laita and Bea Wetton are just behind Hope and Nuneviller with a 10-9 mark playing primarily in the No. 3 spot. Both teams posted 2-2 records last weekend at the Pac-12 North Invitational at Stanford.
History vs the Field
Oregon and Hawaii have met just once—a 5-0 Hawaii win last season—prior to Saturday's match. The Ducks and host Washington have split a pair of matches this season. Oregon's 3-2 win during the Pac-12 South Invitational (March 26) was just the program's second ever against UW. The Ducks carry a 10-3 advantage in their all-time series against Portland, including a 4-1 win in Eugene earlier this season.
For their standout work in the classroom, Carly Wallace and Valerie Peterson earned their way onto the UO Dean's List for the Winter 2022 quarter. Among the criteria, a student must carry at least 12 credits coupled with a term GPA of 3.75 or higher. Sixty (60!) Oregon student-athletes were honored with spots on the Dean's List.
Nuneviller Continues National Team Training
Two-time indoor All-American Brooke Nuneviller was invited to attend the USA Women's National Team Spring Training Camp (March 5-12) in Anaheim, Calif. She is one of several currently collegians invited to compete and train under the National Team coaching staff.
Welcome, Coach Dillard
Jason Dillard was named head coach of Oregon Beach Volleyball in September 2021. He spent 18 years as the director and head coach of the Goldenwest Volleyball Club (GWVBC), a program that produced nearly 250 college players including 93 at the Division I level. Dillard also spent 12 seasons (2006-17) at Fullerton College with previous Division I experience at UC Riverside (2004-05).
The 2022 UO Beach Volleyball roster features three Ducks—Reagan Hope, Daley McClellan and Brooke Nuneviller—that are also members of the indoor team. For a second-consecutive season, Nuneviller was named to the AVCA All-America Second Team after averaging 3.96 kills per set coupled with 17 double-doubles. Hope redshirted this past indoor season and McClellan appeared in 12 matches with a season-high seven digs in a three-set win over Colorado (Oct. 31). Alex Laita and Bea Wetton started their UO careers as members of the indoor team in 2019.
Oregon returns to its home courts at Amazon Park for its regular-season finale—and Senior Day—on April 21. First serve is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. against Portland. The team will then travel to Tucson for a second time this season for the Pac-12 Championship. The conference tournament begins Wednesday, April 27.
