UCLA Wraps Up Play at the Thunderbird Collegiate

PHOENIX – The UCLA men's golf team finished 15th (+16, 868) following a 2-under 282 in the final round of the Thunderbird Collegiate on the Papago Golf Course Saturday afternoon. Freshman Omar Morales and graduate Eddy Lai posted the Bruins' best scores of the tournament at 3-over 216 to tie for 46th.
 
No. 1 Oklahoma won the event by five strokes at 31-under 821 (278-273-270). Arizona State's James Leow shot a 14-under 199 to win the individual title by two strokes.
 
Lai shot his second even-par 71 round of the tournament in his 18 holes today with two birdies on both the front and back nine. Morales was 1-over 73 with birdies on the par-5 15th and par-4 18th to close out his final round.
 
Freshman Pablo Ereño Perez recorded UCLA's best round of the day with a 3-under 68 for his fifth sub-70 score of the season. Ereño Perez shot a bogey-free front nine with three birdies, helping him shoot up 16 spots to T-53rd (+4, 217).
 
Freshman Alvaro Mueller played his best 18 holes of the tournament in round three with an even-par 71 after a 77 and 74 in rounds one and two. Mueller finished tied for 72nd (+9, 222).
 
Junior Mason Greene finished his first competition of the 2021-22 season tied for 85th (+16, 229).
 
Freshman Evan Chien, who competed individually, tied for 82nd (+13, 226). Chien shot a 4-over 75 in round three with three birdies on the front nine.
 
The Bruins' next competition is at the El Macero Classic at El Macero Country Club in Davis, Calif. Round one of the three-day, 54-hole stroke play event begins Wednesday, April 20.
