The Lopes began to find their groove in the second set. After Grand Canyon took a 13-9 lead, the Trojans found themselves battling from behind. Maximizing off Grand Canyon errors as well as kills from Gallas and Schroeder, USC tied up the set at 18-18. Kobrine went on a hot streak of kills, and Gallas closed out the set as the Trojans won 25-22 to take a 2-0 overall lead in the match.
Grand Canyon was determined not to let this match end in three sets. They jumped ahead by five points holding a 15-10 lead. USC, led by Gallas, had to battle its way back into the set. The Lopes led 22-20, but in true "Fight On" fashion, USC evened out the score at 25-25 and won the final two points to claim the set and the match.
The Trojans will now begin their MPSF Tournament run. The entire tournament will be played in UCLA's Pauley Pavilion in Westwood, Calif. USC, the No. 2 seed, will face No. 7 seed Concordia in the Quarterfinals on Wednesday (Apr. 20) at 2 p.m. PT.
