Apr 16, 2022

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Women's tennis defeated the Colorado Buffaloes, 4-1, on Senior Day to close out the regular season. The Utes picked up their 14th win of the season with the win.
"I am so happy we were able to send the seniors off in that way," remarked head coach Ric Mortera. "The team played solid tennis from the start and executed well. I want to thank Lindsay, Anya, Madeline, Emily, and Linda for everything they have done for our program. They will be remembered here, and we look forward to continuing to build on their legacies. We are going to enjoy today, then look to take the momentum with us to the conference tournament next week."
Finishing first in doubles, Lindsay Hung and Katya Hersh defeated their opponents, Betina Tokac / Ellen Puzak, 6-1. Following closely behind were Emily Dush and Anastasia Goncharova. The duo of Dush and Goncharova won against Colorado's Maria Campos and Mila Stanojevic, 6-2. Linda Huang and Madison Tattini's match was left unfinished, but they were winning, 5-3.
Tattini earned the Utes their first singles point in singles and extended the Utes' lead to 2-0 against the Buffs. TAttini took on Mila Stanojevic and won 6-4,6-1. In No. 1 singles, Huang, the 119th ranked player, won next against Antonia Balzert, 6-3, 7-6(5).

Needing to win one match to win the match, Goncharova came up clutch for the Utes. She faced off against Maria Campos and won the first set 6-2. Campos answered back with a 6-2 victory of her own, forcing a third set. Goncharova clinched the win for Utah with a 6-3 third set win.
All other matches were left unfinished, but Utah had won a set on each court.
The senior class has won 44 matches and earned a ranking of 27 in the ITA Team Rankings, tying the highest program ranking since 1989. Earlier this season, the team defeated #21 USC, 4-2. The win over 21st ranked Trojans is the highest-ranked victory since the 2012 season. The senior class also won all four matches against BYU extending the streak to 13 straight victories.
