Apr 18, 2022

BRACKETS: MEN'S | WOMEN'S

SAN FRANCISCO - The Pac-12 Conference has announced the brackets for the 2022 Pac-12 Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships, which make their return to Ojai, California beginning Wednesday, April 20 with one men's and three women's first-round matches. Regular-season champions for the first time and unbeaten in league action, Arizona will be the top men's seed. California, the reigning women's tournament champions, will be the No. 1 women's seed.

No. 14 Arizona (20-5, 7-0) swept through the conference to clinch the No. 1 men's seed and the first Pac-12 title in program history with a 4-1 win at No. 48 Washington (15-10, 2-6) on Sunday. No. 15 USC (18-5, 7-1), the two-time defending tournament champion, is the event's No. 2 seed, while last year's regular-season champion No. 16 Stanford (16-4, 6-2) is the No. 3 seed. Rounding out the top five of the men's bracket, No. 32 Utah (20-6, 4-4), the No. 4 seed, will open with No. 53 UCLA (9-11, 2-4), the No. 5 seed, on Thursday at 9 a.m. PT in a rematch from this past weekend. The Utes, which joined the conference in 2011, set a program record for Pac-12 victories this season.

The women's bracket is led by No. 7 California (15-6, 8-1), which won its first regular-season title since 2014 on Saturday with a 5-2 victory over No. 17 Stanford. No. 15 UCLA (11-5, 7-1), last season's regular-season champion, is the No. 2 seed and followed by the No. 3 seeded Cardinal (14-5, 7-2). No. 19 USC (17-10, 7-3) earned the tournament's No. 4 seed and will open on Thursday with No. 5 seeded Arizona State (14-6, 6-4), which is ranked 20th nationally and has won six in a row. The top five seeds receive first-round byes and begin in the quarterfinals, with the top three seeds awaiting the winners of Wednesday's matches.

Team seeding is based on won-lost percentages during regular-season play, with the first tiebreaker being the head-to-head winner. ITA national rankings are then used if a tie still exists. The tournament winners will receive the conference's automatic bids to the NCAA Championships.

From Wednesday through Friday, the women's tournament will be contested at Ojai Valley Tennis Club before moving to Libbey Park for the championship on Saturday. The men's tournament will be held at Libbey Park all four days. Live coverage of Saturday's championship matches will take place on Pac-12 Networks.
