Melgrati Leads Wildcats To Open Pac-12 Championships
EUGENE, Ore. – Freshman Carolina Melgrati fired a 1-over round of 73 to lead Arizona Women's Golf at the first round of the Pac-12 Championships. The Wildcats concluded Monday in a tie for ninth place at 17-over par as Melgrati finished in a tie for ninth among all players.
"Today was a very challenging round for everyone with inclement weather and difficult conditions," said head coach Laura Ianello. "Carolina had a very strong round today, which was a positive tone to set. We posted stronger scores in the second half of the day, which will give us some momentum going into the second round."
Melgrati shot even par on the front nine, which included the day's only eagle that came on the 485-yard, par-5 eighth hole. The longest holes on the course were the freshman's best as she sank three birdies and an eagle on Eugene Country Club's par 5's.
Senior Ya Chun Chang carded Arizona's second-lowest round of the day at 4-over par, which put her in the top 30 of the player leaderboards.
The Wildcats will tee off on Tuesday morning within ten strokes of the five teams ahead of them in the standings.
