UCLA T-6th After Round One of Pac-12 Championships
EUGENE, Ore. – Freshmen Caroline Canales and Alessia Nobilio led the No. 17 UCLA women's golf team with a pair of even-par 72 performances in round one of the 2022 Pac-12 Women's Golf Championships at Eugene Country Club on Monday. The Bruins are tied for 6th at 8-over 296 and are six strokes behind first-place Stanford.
Canales and Nobilio are tied for fifth and trail USC's Brianna Navarrosa by two strokes on the individual leader board in their postseason debut.
Canales was flawless on the front nine with two birdies and no bogeys before shooting a 2-over 39 on the back. Nobilio notched four birdies in her round with two on both the front and back nine.
Juniors Emma Spitz and Emilie Paltrinieri are tied for 31st in the 55-player field at 4-over 76.
Spitz dropped out of the top 20 with her double bogey on the par-4 18th. She had one birdie in her round on the par-4 third.
Paltrinieri was also situated in the top 20 before recording bogeys on the par-4 17th and 18th holes. Paltrinieri notched two birdies on the par-4 third and par-5 16th.
Redshirt sophomore Ty Akabane rounded out UCLA's fivesome in T-45th (+7, 79). Akabane had one birdie on the par-3 fifth. She shot a 6-over 43 on the back nine with bogeys on the last three holes.
UCLA tees off for round two on hole 10 tomorrow morning beginning at 9:20 a.m. PT. The Bruins' tee times runs through 9:56 a.m.
