Midweek Win

Apr 19, 2022

BERKELEY – California used a big first inning and held on late for a 9-8 midweek win over UC Davis on Tuesday at Levine-Fricke Field.

Tatum Anzaldo recorded three hits for the Bears (25-18) while Sona Halajian and Makena Smith added two base knocks apiece. Halajian picked up her 17th win of the season in the circle.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Cal looked to try and put the game away early on, scoring seven runs on five hits in the home first. Smith and Anzaldo started the game with singles before Halajian brought them around with a 2-run single to left and a 2-0 lead.

After three more runs on an error, steal and a groundout, Kennedy Thomas hit her first-career home run to right field, a 2-run shot, making it 7-0 after one complete. The Aggies chipped away through the middle innings and it was an 8-7 game heading to the visitor seventh.

The Aggies scored a run on four hits, with Aleia Agbayani and Amani Bradley each throwing out a potential go-ahead run at the plate in the frame. Halajian led off the bottom half with a base hit and was at third with two down after a stolen base.

Bradley came through in the clutch, dropping a bloop single just inside the left field line out of the reach of three Aggies to score the game-winner in Halajian.
