LOS ANGELES – The No. 4 UCLA softball team got back on track with an 8-1 victory over San Diego on Tuesday evening at Easton Stadium. The Bruins moved to 12-0 all-time against the Toreros.

UCLA (33-5, 10-2 Pac-12) picked up RBIs from five different players, including three from Alyssa Garcia and a pair from Briana Perez. Lauren Shaw recorded 4.0 innings of one-run ball to take the win and move to 5-2 on the year.

UCLA's offense got on the board early after a scoreless top of the first from Shaw. Perez walked to open the bottom half and stole second and third before coming in on an opposite field double from Kinsley Washington. Later, Seneca Curo was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Alyssa Garcia followed with a two-run single, giving the Bruins an early 4-0 lead after one.

Shaw allowed just one hit across the next two innings before the Bruins came up in the bottom of the third. An error from San Diego shortstop Amanda Limon on a grounder from Anna Vines loaded the bases. Garcia then walked, making it 5-0 with one out in in the frame. A sacrifice fly from Castro scored Savannah Pola and advanced the two remaining runners, allowing Perez to bring them both home on a double down the right field line.

The Bruins took an 8-0 lead into the top of the fourth. Shaw went back to work but surrendered a solo shot to catcher AJ Kaiser with one out in the inning. Lauryn Carter made a diving catch in short left field to end the Toreros' half and secure the eventual final score, 8-1.

Lexi Sosa entered for the Bruins on the mound in the fifth inning and tossed 3.0 scoreless innings to finish the ballgame and earn the save.

The Bruins are back in action later this week for a three-game series on the road against Oregon State, with the first matchup scheduled for Friday, April 22. First pitch from Kelly Field in Corvallis is scheduled for 7 p.m. PT.
