Rogers Earns Third Straight Pac-12 Honor

Apr 19, 2022

BERKELEY – After breaking the women's hammer throw collegiate record at the Mt. SAC Relays last weekend, California track & field senior Camryn Rogers has been named the Pac-12 Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the third straight week, as announced by the conference on Tuesday.

Rogers competed in the elite invitational section of the Mt. SAC Relays on April 16, which featured the best of the best from around the world; she was the only collegiate athlete to enter the women's hammer throw section, finishing second behind only fellow Olympian (and current world leader) Brooke Andersen with her throw of 75.73m (248-5). That mark resets the collegiate record previously reached by Rogers herself at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships and gives her the top four throws in NCAA history.

"This was a great opportunity for Camryn to compete with some of the very best throwers in the world, and she represented herself and our team successfully," said assistant coach Mohamad Saatara, who leads the throws group. "Setting a new PR and collegiate record mid-season in an elite setting such as this is a good indicator of our preparedness for the major competitions coming up in the championship season."

Rogers and the Bears (No. 18 women, No. 23 men) will return to action on April 30, when they face Stanford in the 127th Big Meet at Cobb Track and Angell Field.
