Newfeld Qualifies for USA Championships

Apr 21, 2022

BERKELEY – After posting an all-around score of 78.798 on the final day of the NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championships, California men's gymnastics sophomore Noah Newfeld has qualified for this summer's U.S. Gymnastics Championships, as announced by U.S. Gymnastics this week.

"Noah has been a consistent all-arounder this year, and it could not be more fitting that he accomplished his goal of qualifying to the U.S. Championships from the NCAA Championships," said head coach J.T. Okada. "His work ethic in the gym is inspirational, as are his accomplishments at competitions this year. After winning CGA Rookie of the Year last year, his sophomore campaign has seen continued improvement and development in his craft – we are continuously happy to have someone like Noah on our team."

Newfeld will have another chance to make the U.S. Men's Gymnastics team at the Championships, which are scheduled for Aug. 18-21 in Tampa, Fla. He previously competed for a spot on the team at the 2022 Winter Cup, where he placed 17th in the all-around final with a total score of 77.550.

"Both Winter Cup and U.S. Championships were major goals for me throughout my career, so to make it to Winter Cup was already a huge milestone," said Newfeld. "I thought it was a long shot to make it to the U.S. Championships, but to have it happen felt incredible. It means that all the hard work I've been putting in is paying off, and that the dreams that I had as a younger gymnast are truly possible.

"On the national stage, I'm ready to show the gymnastics community that I'm not just a surprise qualifier, but that I'm a legitimate contender for national accolades," he finished.
