UCLA T-5th After Day One of El Macero Classic
EL MACERO, Calif. – The UCLA men's golf is tied for fifth out of 14 teams field following round one of the El Macero Classic at El Macero Country Club on Wednesday. Freshman Pablo Ereño Perez leads the Bruin lineup tied for 6th at 3-under 69.
Loyola Marymount is in first at 8-under 280 with a two-stroke lead on Denver University. The Lions' Cameron Meeks is in sole possession of first place at 5-under 67 after day one.
Ereño Perez's scorecard was colored red all over with four birdies and just one bogey on the front nine. Ereño Perez has now cracked 70 six times in his career.
Also in the top 20 for the Bruins is freshman Omar Morales who is tied for 13th thanks to his 2-under 70. Morales sunk four birdies – two apiece on the front and back nine – and bogeyed on two par 3s.
Graduate Eddy Lai shot an even par 72 in a round one highlighted by the Bruins' lone eagle of the day coming on the par-5 15th. Lai also saw three birdies fall in his round.
Junior Mason Greene, who competed individually, was 5-over 77 on day one with two birdies.
Alvaro Muller is 5-over 77 after day one with four birdies negated by five bogeys and one double bogey. Evan Chien recorded a 6-over 78 with one birdie coming on the par-4 10th and seven bogeys.
