Buffs Host First Spring Edition of Colorado Cup
BOULDER—The Front Range collegiate soccer community will converge upon Prentup Field for the first spring rendition of the Colorado Cup.
Colorado, Air Force, Denver and Northern Colorado will all play a round-robin tournament to decide the 2022 cup.
"We're excited to have Northern Colorado, Air Force and Denver joining us on Saturday," head coach Danny Sanchez said. "I think it's a great way to wrap up the spring for us. We'll have a little extra incentive on Saturday because we will be playing for the Cup that Denver currently holds.
"We've had a very productive winter and spring. The team has been working very hard in the weight room and I feel we've really grown as a team as we prepare for 2022."
The Buffs got three goals from Shyra James last weekend in a 3-0 win over Wyoming to put a bow on the final traditional match of the spring.
The Cup will be awarded to the team that collects the most points at the end of the matches on Saturday. The format will consist of 25-minute halves, with two games happening at once. Penalty kicks will be used to break a regulation tie.
A win in regulation will be three points, a PK win is two and a PK loss is one.
The Buffs will open with Northern Colorado at 11 a.m. and will play DU (12:15 p.m.) and Air Force (1:30 p.m.).
The Prentup Field bleachers will not be out, due to the two fields running parallel to each other. Fans are welcome to bring their own seating.
All spring contests are open to the public and have free admittance.
