Fetherstonhaugh sets fourth school record at Oregon Relays

Apr 22, 2022

Eugene, Ore. – Grace Fetherstonhaugh set her third school school record on Friday, sparking the Oregon State women's track & field team on the opening day of the Oregon Relays at Hayward Field.

The redshirt junior from New Westminster, B.C., shaved almost four seconds off the 3000-meter steeplechase mark and placed second in 9:44.76, just .02 seconds behind the winner. Her former PR was 9:50.40 and was the No. 2 time in school history before Friday.

The old record was 9:48.30, set by redshirt junior Kaylee Mitchell at last year's Pacific-12 Conference championships. Mitchell placed fourth on Friday in 9:53.67.

Outdoors, Fetherstonhaugh also holds the OSU records in the 1500 (4:17.25) and 5000 (15:58.93), and ranks ninth in the 800 (2:11.17). She is also the record-holder in the indoor 5000 (16:00.93), and second in the indoor 3000 (9:00.87).

Junior Anneke Moersdorf won the long jump with a mark of 19-8.25. The San Luis Obispo, Calif., native established the No. 5 all-time performance at OSU with her effort, a PR by almost five inches. She formerly was No. 9 on the all-time list at 19-3.50, set last weekend in Long Beach, Calif.

Sophomore Adael Scatena sped to second place in the 400 hurdles in 1:01.41, a PR by nearly a second and the No. 6 time in school history. Junior Taylor Weidinger was third in 1:03.17.

The Beavers claimed six top-10 spots in the 1500, led by sophomore Amber Jackson at 4:32.10, good for second place. Redshirt senior Delia DeLeon was fourth (4:33.20).

Redshirt freshman Jade Whitfield was fourth in the discus at 159-7; redshirt senior Keely McLaughlin was fifth at 149-9.

The meet concludes on Saturday; the premier track event is the 800 Invitational at 5:15 p.m. OSU's entrant is senior Mari Friedman, who ranked No. 3 all-time in that event with a PR of 2:07.50 set last Saturday at the Lewis & Clark Invitational.

Pac-12 Athlete of the Week nominees

Senior Mari Friedman was nominated for Pac-12 Track Athlete of the Week and freshman Markayla Billings was nominated for Pac-12 Field Athlete of the Week for April 11-17. Neither was selected.

Running at the Lewis & Clark Invitational, Friedman led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 800 with a 2:07.50 clocking to better her No. 3 all-time mark by nearly one-half second. Her former PR was 2:07.94. Billings took 15th place in the hammer and assumed the No. 5 spot with a mark of 179-8 at the Beach Invitational at Long Beach State. She had been No. 6 with a PR of 175-4.
