Utah Lacrosse Clinches ASUN Regular Season Title With 12-11 Win At Bellarmine

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – In its first year in the ASUN Conference, the University of Utah Lacrosse team clinched the regular season title today with its 12-11 victory on the road against Bellarmine. With its fifth straight win, Utah improves to 8-3 overall and 4-0 in ASUN games.

With their 12 goals today, the Utes broke the school record for single-season goals, totaling 146, which passes the previous record of 138 that was set in 2019. Utah also set program records for single-season points (237) and assists (91) today after recording 20 points and eight assists against the Knights.

Utah out-shot the Knights 43-40 while holding Bellarmine to just 20 shots on goal. The Knights had 15 turnovers in the game with Utah causing six while also winning the ground ball battle at 26-18.  

Jordan Hyde led the Utes with three goals while Tyler Bradbury tallied two goals and four assists. Jared Andreala added two goals with a total of eight different players finding the back of the net today.

Cole Brams once again led the Utes in ground balls, racking up 14 for his third double-digit GB game this season. Brams also finished with 18 faceoff wins while Samuel Cambere and Josh Stout led the way with two caused turnovers each.

The first quarter shootout started with the Utes taking an early 2-0 lead on goals from Hyde and Bradbury before the Knights evened things up with 7:18 on the clock. Josh Rose would get the Utes back in the lead at the 6:13 mark with his 10th goal of the season before Bellarmine tied it up once again just seconds later.

Andreala would score both of his goals with under five minutes to play in the first quarter, which included Utah's fifth of the game with just four seconds remaining in the period to send the Utes into the second quarter up 5-4.

Bellarmine would tie the game for the fourth game with 11:25 to go in the second quarter, but the Utes quickly responded with back-to-back goals.

First, it was Hyde who scored his second goal of the game and his 30th of the season with Bradbury following it up with his second of the match for a 7-5 Utah lead. Bellarmine's early goal would be its only of the quarter with the Utes heading into halftime up by two.

The Utes made it a three-point game with a goal from Josh Stout to start the third quarter, but a 3-0 run by the Knights would make it a tie game with 1:25 remaining in the quarter. Bradbury would send in his second goal with 1:15 to play in the quarter, but Bellarmine would counter once again, making it a tie game heading into the final quarter of the game.

The Utes would strike first with MJ McMahon and Koa Todd scoring back-to-back goals to start the quarter, allowing the Utes to hold onto a 11-9 lead with 10:42 left in the game. Hyde would complete his hat trick with 3:13 to go in the game with Utah holding a three-point lead as time trickled down.

Bellarmine would score two straight goals with under two minutes to play, including one with just seven seconds on the clock, but Brams would win the final faceoff to keep the ball in Utah's hands. In goal, Zion Dechesere racked up five saves and three ground balls in the fourth quarter to keep the Knights at bay and secure the Utah win.
