Skaggs’ Two Home Runs Push Cats Past Utah

Apr 24, 2022

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – No. 24 Arizona improved to 27-16 (6-12 Pac-12) after taking down the Utes (22-22, 5-10 Pac-12) in the series finale.

Arizona scored six runs on 10 hits with six RBI.  Allie Skaggs went 2-for-3 with two home runs – one of which was a grand slam – and drove in a career best five runs. Izzy Pacho went 3-for-4 with two doubles.

Arizona scored in the first on an RBI hit-by-pitch that Utah answered with a solo home run.

It was a pitcher's duel until Allie Skaggs hit a grand slam – the first of her career – in the fourth to put the Cats up 5-1. Utah scored two in the bottom of the fourth to close the gap.

Skaggs gave the Cats some insurance with a solo shot in the seventh for a three-run lead heading into the final inning. Utah scored two in the bottom of the seventh, but the Cats were able to hold them to just two runs to win the game.

Devyn Netz picked up the win to improve to 13-5 on the season, striking out two batters.
