Three Ducks Finish in Top-10 at Pac-12 Championships

Apr 27, 2022

SAMMAMISH, Wash. – Three Duck golfers finished among the top 10 individuals to lead Oregon to a fourth place finish Wednesday at the Pac-12 Championships played at Aldarra Golf Club.

Yuki Moriyama finished third at the Conference tournament for the second year in a row, while Owen Avrit and Nate Stember tied for 10th.

The Ducks had the low round of the day on Wednesday, a 2-under 354 that solidified their fourth-place standing.

How It Happened: Moriyama flirted with the top of the scoreboard in the middle of his round after a birdie on No. 11 pulled him within a stroke of the leaders. He played bogey-free golf the rest of the way and finished two strokes back of individual medalist Noah Woolsey of Washington.

"Awesome for Yuki," said head coach Casey Martin. "He had been struggling a bit early in the year but has worked his tail off to get back on track."

Woolsey won at 8-under 276, followed by Barclay Brown of Stanford at 277 and Moriyama at 6-under 278 following a 1-under 70 in the final round.

Avrit and Stember tied for 10th at 2-over 286. Stember carded an even-par 71 on Wednesday while Avrit had a 2-over 73

Greyson Leach led Oregon with a 3-under 68 on Wednesday. The freshman had four birdies in the final round and tied for 28th at 8-over 292.

The Ducks also counted 1-over 72 rounds from Eric Doyle and Greg Solhaug on the final day. Solhaug shot an eagle on the par-5 12th hole to go with three birdies.

No. 8 Washington won the title at 2-over 1,422. No. 17 Stanford was second at plus-5, followed by No. 4 Arizona State at plus-10. The Ducks were two strokes back of the Sun Devils, with California (plus-26) and UCLA (plus-34) rounding out the top half of the field.

Quotable
Head coach Casey Martin
"The guys played great today and shot the low round of the day. I was really pleased with how they competed."

Notable: Moriyama was the only golfer in the field to shoot par or better all four rounds. … The fourth-place finish represented Oregon's sixth top-five finish of 2021-22. … It was the Ducks' best finish at the conference tournament since winning the title in 2017. … Teams counted the top five scores among their six golfers for this tournament, as opposed to standard five-count-four the college format
