BERKELEY – As the regular season comes to a close, California track & field (No. 22 women) looks forward to a strong showing on Saturday, April 30, with the 127th iteration of the yearly Big Meet against Stanford (No. 23 men). The first field event (the men's hammer throw) is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. PT at Stanford's Cobb Track and Angell Field, while the first track event (the women's 3000m steeplechase) will commence at 2:15 p.m.

Star hammer thrower Camryn Rogers, who broke her own collegiate record at the Mt. SAC Relays two weeks ago with a toss of 75.73m (248-5), is looking to also break her own Big Meet record after throwing 71.39m (234-2) 2021. Cal's women last defeated the Cardinal in 2021 by a score of 88-74; the men last won in 2019, losing by just 10 points (75-85) in the 2021 contest between the two teams.

Rogers' record was far from the only impressive result posted by the Bears in their last outing. Ezinne Abba broke her own 100m school record twice – once in the preliminary round (11.27) and once in the final (11.12) – and also ran the second leg of the school record-breaking 4x100m relay squad that also included Jada Hicks, Maisie Stevens and Aysha Shaheed, compiling a time of 43.99. Freshman discus thrower Mykolas Alekna became just the second man in NCAA history to reach multiple top-10 marks, heaving the platter 66.61m (218-6) for the fifth-highest all-time throw to join his school-record 66.70m (218-10) from the Aztec Invitational. Hakim McMorris made his 2022 decathlon debut, accumulating a total of 7941 points for the fourth-highest score in program history; he also tied for sixth all-time at Cal in the 100m dash (10.42) and posted the school's ninth-fastest all-time 400m dash (46.36). In the shot put, Josh Johnson took further control of Cal's second-best mark with his PR of 19.89m (65-3.25), while Jada Hicks moved up to fifth all-time at Cal in the 100m hurdles after finishing the race in 13.57. Anna Purchase bookended the group with another impressive hammer finish, reaching a distance of 69.56m (228-3) to win the open section of the event.

The 127th Big Meet will be live streamed on FloTrack. Live results can be found on RecordTiming.
