Mirkovic And Costa Named All-Americans

Apr 28, 2022

LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY Cal fifth-year seniors Mima Mirkovic and Ana Costa were named Second Team All-Americans by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on Thursday.
This is the third year that Mirkovic has been named as an All-American. She earned second-team honors in 2021 from the AVCA and was named honorable mention All-American in 2019 by both the AVCA and Volleyball Magazine.
Ana Costa is an All-American for the second time as she joined Mirkovic on the second team last year, while playing at Stetson.
The duo played together this year at the top pair and sported a record of 11-3 in matches that they were able to finish. Mirkovic had to withdraw from two matches, including a match against Arizona where she suffered an injury that has kept her out the rest of the 2022 season. In the matches they completed, the pair was 11-0 against teams outside the top five of the AVCA rankings. That mark included wins over seven teams that were ranked or receiving votes.
Mirkovic holds Cal's record for most wins at the No. 1 position with 73. She's totaled 79 wins, which ranks second in school history for wins despite playing at the top position her entire career. She ranks in Cal's all-time top five in win percentage, having won more than 70% of her matches. She has also been named to the All-Pac-12 team three times. She earned a place on the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll for four straight years.
Costa is in her first year with the Bears, joining the team as a graduate transfer. Costa has gone 23-11 this year for the Bears while playing with five different partners. She joined the Bears after a stellar career with Stetson where she went 61-25 and was named ASUN Pair of the Year in her final year with the Hatters.
Three other Bears have also earned All-American honors in their career. Grace Campbell and Maddie Micheletti were named second-team All-Americans by volleymob and in 2018. Jordan Polo earned honorable mention All-American honors in 2019 while she was paired with Mirkovic.
