No. 1 USC Beach Volleyball Beats UCLA, Advances to Pac-12 Championship Dual

Apr 28, 2022

TUCSON, Ariz. – The top-seeded and No. 1-ranked USC beach volleyball team (31-1) earned a 3-1 victory over No. 2-seeded and No. 3-ranked UCLA (30-6) in the Pac-12 Championship winner's bracket final on Bear Down Beach on Thursday, April 28, and advances directly into the championship dual set for 2 p.m. PT on Friday, April 29.

The Women of Troy extend their winning streak to 30 duals—now the second longest streak in program history—and improved to 19-14 all-time against UCLA. USC goes to 31-1 in matches played in the state of Arizona and to 21-5 all-time in Pac-12 tournament duals.

The Bruins scored the first point of the dual with a win at court five. There, Sophie Moore and Natalie Myszkowski defeated Mollie Ebertin and Sunny Villapando, 21-11, 21-14.

USC evened the score with a win at the No. 3 position when Delaynie Maple and Julia Scoles claimed a 21-16, 22-20 win over Lea Monkhouse and Jessie Smith to improve to 31-1 on the season. Their 31 wins ties the 15th most by any pair in program history.

The Trojans went in front, 2-1, with a win at the top court where Tina Graudina and Hailey Harward extended their win streak to 26 straight on a 21-17, 23-21 victory over Lexy Denaberg and Abby Van Winkle. Graudina-Harward improves to 27-1 on the season.

The win went into the books when twin sisters Audrey Nourse and Nicole Nourse topped their birthday celebration with a 21-18, 21-16 win over Marlie Monserez and Rileigh Powers at the No. 4 position. The Nourses improve to 22-4 this season and to 58-10 all-time.

With the dual decided, play was suspended at the No. 2 position where Megan Kraft and Sammy Slater won their first set over Devon Newberry and Jaden Whitmarsh, 21-15, but lost the second, 22-20.

The Trojans go straight to the championship dual—USC's sixth appearance in the tournament final—and will either get a rematch with No. 3 UCLA (30-6) or one of the other two contender's bracket teams: No. 12 California (25-12) or Arizona State (17-14). The final dual will be shown live on Pac-12 Networks at 2 p.m. PT.
