USC Beach Volleyball Pairs Graudina-Harward, Kraft-Slater Earn AVCA All-America Laurels

Apr 28, 2022

LEXINGTON, Ky. – USC beach volleyball senior Tina Graudina (Jurmala, Latvia), graduate Hailey Harward (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista HS), sophomore Megan Kraft (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines HS), and graduate Sammy Slater (Ventura, Calif./Ventura HS) were named to the AVCA All-America teams on Thursday, April 28.
Graudina-Harward was chosen to the first team by the committee appointed by the American Volleyball Coaches Association; and Kraft-Slater was tabbed for second-team honors. This is the second time the AVCA has honored two All-America teams. It previously (2012-19) honored only one team and had honorable mention designees. It is the fifth time that four Trojans have received All-America laurels in the same season (2015, '17, '19, '21).
Harward—a first-time selection—becomes USC's 14th All-American as the Women of Troy now recognize 28 all-time certificates.
Graudina receives her fourth All-America honor (2018, '19, '21, '22) and becomes only the fourth four-time All-American. She joins Trojan great Sara Hughes (2014-17), and UCLA's Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara (2016-19). Slater is now a three-time All-American and just the fourth Trojan to be chosen three times. Kraft—the third Trojan freshman ever to receive All-America honors—repeats as a sophomore and is the eighth USC player to receive multiple All-America awards.
As a pair, Graudina and Harward are 26-1 this season. They have won 25 consecutive matches since the lone loss on their record and now rank 19th all-time among USC pairs for wins. Kraft and Slater are unbeaten this spring with a 21-0 record. Both of USC's All-America pairs are playing together for the first time this season. Graudina-Harward was chosen for Pac-12 Pair of the Week honors twice (March 15, April 12) and was named the AVCA/CBVB National Pair of the Week on April 4. Kraft-Slater was named Pac-12 Pair of the Week on April 19.
The initial AVCA Division I Collegiate Sand All-America Team was comprised of 10 players in 2012. The team was expanded to include 14 players for the 2013 season. From 2014-15, the 16 players that reached the quarterfinals of the AVCA Pairs Championship were automatically named All-Americans. From 2016-19, the team remained at 16 players (eight pairs) chosen by a committee.
The No. 1-ranked Women of Troy (29-1) have won 28 straight duals—the third-longest streak in program history—and will meet fifth-seeded tournament host Arizona (19-10) in the Pac-12 Championship winner's bracket semifinal on Thursday (April 28) at 11:30 a.m. PT. The Trojans—winners of three Pac-12 titles—seek a fourth this week on Bear Down Beach in Tucson, Ariz.
