USC Track & Field To Host Crosstown Rival UCLA In Annual Dual Meet At Loker Stadium This Weekend

The USC Track & Field team will be hosting its crosstown rival UCLA in the annual Dual Meet to be held April 30-May 1.  The hammer throw competition will take place on April 30 at noon at the South Bay Throws Facility in Wilmington, Calif., with the majority of the meet taking place on May 1 at Loker Stadium.  Action on May 1 will start at 11 a.m. with the Senior Recognitions beginning at 11:45 a.m..  The meet will run from 11-2:45 p.m. and will stream live on USCTrojans.com.  Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under and students with a high school or college ID and free for USC students.

DUAL MEET HISTORY -- USC swept the 2021 USC-UCLA Dual Meet with the Trojan men winning 114-42 and the women prevailing 93-70. The Trojans set one school record (Katnik - SP) and set four meet records in the wins. The USC men's team has a 45-42 lead all-time in the Dual Meet with UCLA and the women's team has a 15-22 record.  The USC women's team has won the last seven and 12 of the last 13 meetings with UCLA.  USC has swept or split the last seven Dual Meets (3-0-4).  A USC woman has won the 100m dash in 18 of the last 19 Dual Meets and the Trojan women have won the last 16 4x100m relays.  USC's men' have won 17 of the last 18 100m and 200m dashes at the Dual Meet.

CHRIS RINNE TWILIGHT RECAP -- The Trojans won eight events and placed an athlete in the top five of 16 of 17 events in which it competed  at the Chris Rinne Twilight meet in Riverside, Calif. on April 22.  Nikolaos Polychroniou won the men's hammer throw competition with a best throw of 212-3 (64.70m), one centimeter farther than his best mark in his first meet, the Beach Opener on March 4. Jalaysiya Smith won the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 13.31 (+1.1).  Tade Ojora won the men's 110m hurdles title with a time of 13.87 (+1.5).  Bailey Lear won the women's 400m with a time of 53.82. Johnnie Blockburger won the men's 400m with a season best time of 45.57. Kaelin Roberts won the women's 100m dash with a time of 11.63 (+1.1).  Isabelle Cairns won the women's 800m with a time of 2:15.66.  Jan'Taijah Ford won the women's 200m dash with a time of 23.68 (+1.0).  

TOP 30 TROJANS - The Trojans have 16 athletes and three relays which rank in the top 30 among performances during the 2022 outdoor season.  They are:

Women: Celera Barnes (1st - 100m), Jan'Taijah Ford (T-12th - 400m), Karlee Freeman (17th - DT), Jasmine Jones (8th - 100m H), Bailey Lear (27th - 400m), Joy McArthur (24th - HT), Samirah Moody (9th - 100m), Temi Ojora (T-29th - TJ) and 4x100m (17th school).

Men: Johnnie Blockburger (9th - 400m), Davonte Burnett (3rd - 100m), Jalyn Jackson (22nd - TJ), Christian Johnson (25th - HT),  Trey Knight (6th - HT), Tade Ojora (5th - 110m H), Earnest Sears III (T-1st - HJ),  Sam VanDorpe (29th - 800m), 4x100m (T-17th school) and 4x400m (22nd school).

50-YEAR/25-YEAR REUNIONS AT DUAL MEET -- As always, the 50-year and 25-year anniversary USC teams will be honored at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet.  This year three teams from each category will be honored due to the alternating site of the meet, as well as a result of the cancellation of the 2020 meet due to COVID-19.  The 50-year teams to be honored this year will be the the 1970-1971-1972 teams and for the 25-year teams being honored are the 1995-1996-1997 teams.

BURNETT WAS BURNING -- Senior Davonte Burnett, a two-time outdoor All-American in 2021, opened his 2022 outdoor season by winning the 100m dash at the Mt. SAC Relays with a PR of 9.99 (+0.3).  His time moved him to tied for second on USC's all-time list and currently ranks tied for fifth in the world.  Burnett won the 2022 NCAA indoor 60m title and placed fifth in the 100m and sixth in the 200m at the 2021 NCAA Championships.

IT'S A BIRD, IT'S A PLANE, IT'S...EARNIE SEARS! -- Earnest Sears III won the Invitational Elite men's high jump competition at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 16 with a PR and the  second-leading clearance all-time by a Trojan of 7-6.50 (2.30m).  He now only trails Jesse Williams who has the school record of 7-7.25 (2.32m) set in 2006.  The 7-6.50 mark is tied for the world-leading height and also ties him for fifth all-time by a Pac-12 athlete.  Sears III has the USC indoor high jump record, which is the same height of 7-6.50.

TOP OF THE PAC --  USC's men's 800m runners Sam VanDorpe and Bobby Poynter currently ranks first and second in the Pac-12 in the 800m.  VanDorpe ran a PR of 1:48.23 and Poynter a PR of 1:48.33 at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 15.

ACTION JACKSON -- USC junior jumper Jalyn Jackson has best wind-legal jumps this outdoor season of 51-7.00 (15.72m) in the triple jump and 25-0.75 (7.64m) in the long jump.  His triple jump ranks 34th in the country and his best long jump ranks 22nd in the country.  Jackson ranks third in both events among Pac-12 athletes in 2022.

NEXT MEET: PAC-12 CHAMPIONSHIPS -- The next meet for the Trojans will be the Pac-12 Track & Field Championships to be held in Eugene, Ore. on Mary 13-15.
