Apr 29, 2022
Megan Faraimo

LOS ANGELES – Megan Faraimo threw her fourth shutout of the season, allowing just two hits in the No. 3 UCLA softball team's 1-0 blanking of Utah on Friday night.

The Bruins (38-5, 14-2 Pac-12) scored just one run on four hits. UCLA tallied the game's only run in the second inning on a base hit by Seneca Curo into right field to score Savannah Pola from second base.

Faraimo, who moved to 17-1 on the year, K'd nine batters to boost her season strikeout total to a Pac-12-best 229. Faraimo has allowed five or fewer hits in 11 of her 19 starts this season when going at least 5.0 innings.

The Utes (23-23, 5-11 Pac-12) reached second base only once in the game with one out in the first inning. From that point on, Faraimo allowed just one hit and three total Utah baserunners (two walks).

Tonight's performance marked the 25th time in UCLA's 43 games the Bruins' defense had zero errors.

Maya Brady recorded UCLA's only extra-base hit of the night with a double into left field to leadoff the fourth inning before being thrown out in an attempt to stretch it to a triple. Alyssa Garcia and Kinsley Washington also notched singles.

UCLA's four hits were tied for the second fewest in a win this season (3 H vs. Iowa State on Feb. 25; 4 H vs. UCSD on Feb. 11).

First pitch for game two between UCLA and Utah is at 6 p.m. PT tomorrow at Easton Stadium. The contest is available for viewing on Pac-12 Insider.
