Murphy Earns Silver In 100 Back At Phillips 66

Ryan Murphy added a second event to his 2022 FINA World Championships slate with a runner-up finish in the 100-meter backstroke on Friday.

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Ryan Murphy added a second event to his 2022 FINA World Championships slate on Friday night when he earned runner-up honors in the 100-yard backstroke at the United States Phillips 66 International Team Trials.
 
Murphy touched the wall in 52.46 seconds for the silver medal and was one of three Golden Bears to claim top-five finishes across a pair of events on the fourth night of the U.S. Trials. Daniel Carr was close behind Murphy in fifth place, clocking 53.59.
 
The lone Cal representative in the 100 breaststroke, Liam Bell placed third in 1:01.15. It was his second top-five finish in as many days.
 
In the 400 freestyle, Will Roberts finished sixth in the B final (3:54.96) while 2022 signee Matthew Chai won the C final in 3:53.75. Sean Grieshop touched the wall in 4:00.81 for 30th in morning prelims.
 
Destin Lasco placed ninth in the 100 back prelims with a time of 54.36 but did not swim in the finals.
