Six OSU Wrestlers Named Scholar All-Americans
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State's Cory Crooks, Brandon Kaylor, Grant Willits, Hunter Willits, Mateo Olmos and Trey Munoz have all been named Scholar All-Americans by the National Wrestling Coaches Association on Friday.
To be eligible for the honor, student-athletes must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA and be an All-American, have a 3.2 GPA and be a national qualifier or have a 3.5 GPA and win 60 percent of their respective matches.
Kaylor, Grant Willits and Hunter Willits all earned All-America honors this past season as the Beavers placed four for the first time since 1995. Kaylor took eighth at 125 pounds, while Grant Willits was fourth at 141. Hunter Willits finished seventh at 157.
Kaylor, a management major, went 22-7 this past year. Grant Willits, a mechanical engineering major, led the Beavers with a 29-7 record while his brother, Hunter, was 17-8.
Both Crooks and Munoz advanced to the NCAA's postseason as OSU sent eight, the team's most since 2012. Crooks, who came to OSU as a grad transfer, finished with a 17-11 record in his lone season as a Beaver. Munoz, who is majoring in chemistry, finished the 2021-22 season with a 24-5 record.
Olmos, a public health major, was 16-9 last season. Olmos was one of the seven selections.
The honors come a day after the Beavers saw seven wrestlers named to the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll.
