USC Men, Women Take Early Track & Field Dual Meet Lead vs. UCLA After Hammer Throw Competition
The USC track and field team got off to a great start in the 2022 USC-UCLA Dual Meet with Trey Knight's win in the hammer throw leading a men's sweep in the event, and Joy McArthur's win in the women's hammer throw giving the Women of Troy the early lead at the South Bay Throws Facility in Wilmington, Calif. today (April 30). The men's team leads 9-0 after one event and the women's team has a 5-4 lead over UCLA.
- Knight won the men's hammer throw with a PR of 234-6 (71.48m) which came on his first attempt. That mark betters his seventh-place standing on USC's all-time list and currently ranks fourth among NCAA throwers. Christian Johnson took second place with a throw of 216-10 (66.09m). Nikolaos Polychroniou had a season-best throw of 214-11 (65.52m) to finish third and complete the Trojan sweep.
- McArthur won the women's competition with a PR of 218-6 (66.61m). It was her third personal-best throw of the competition and bettered her fifth-place standing on USC's all-time list. Her mark also moved her from 24th to 16th on the NCAA descending order list. Summer Mosley finished fourth with a best throw of 181-3 (55.26m) and Abbey Knoll finished sixth with a personal-best mark of 125-1 (38.13).
The remainder of the 2022 USC-UCLA Dual Meet will begin at 11 a.m. on Sunday, May 1 at Loker Stadium on the USC campus. The Senior Introductions will be at 11:45 a.m. and the 4x100m relay will go off at 12:05 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under and for students with a high school or college ID and free for USC students.
