Pair of All-Americans
STANFORD, Calif. – Will Rottman and Justin Lui have been tabbed NVA/AVCA All-Americans, announced today by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
Rottman was selected to the first team, while Lui landed on the honorable mention list. Both are being recognized for the first time in their careers. Stanford now has 74 All-America awards all-time.
Rottman is the first Cardinal to be named to the first team since 2016. The outside hitter becomes the 21st first-team selection in program history, finishing with the sixth-most kills (472) in a single season in the rally-scoring era (2001-present) by a Cardinal player.
A native of Santa Barbara, Rottman's 472 kills led the NCAA. He also led the MPSF in kills per set (4.37) and points per set (4.88), ranking fifth and sixth in the nation, respectively. The junior registered double-digit kills in 24 of 28 matches, reaching the 20-plus kill plateau eight times, including his final four outings. He set a school record in the rally-scoring era with 34 kills in four sets at Grand Canyon (April 2) – the most kills by an MPSF player since 2017.
A redshirt junior from Pickering, Ontario, Canada, Lui tied for second in the MPSF and was 15th nationally with 2.18 digs per set. He also ranks 10th in the conference with 0.79 assists per set. His 235 digs were the seventh-most in a single season in the rally-scoring era in school history. Lui earned MPSF Defensive Player of the Week honors on Jan. 10 and registered double-digit digs in 11 matches, including a career-high 16 at Long Beach State (Feb. 25).
