Capalbo & Espin Busleiman Selected to NCAA Men’s Tennis Doubles Championship

SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah men's tennis doubles team of Franco Capalbo and Geronimo Espin Busleiman has been selected for the 2022 NCAA Men's Tennis Doubles Championship which was announced Tuesday. The competition will be conducted May 23-28 at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Champaign, Illinois. 
 
Capalbo and Espin Busleiman are the first Utah duo since Nick Coutts and Zach Ganger qualified in 2006. Capalbo and Espin Busleiman earned an at-large selection. 
 
The duo ranked as high as 15 in the ITA Rankings this season and were No. 27 in the latest poll. This spring, Capalbo and Espin Busleiman were 18-2 as a doubles team and are 20-4, including the fall slate. The duo played in the ITA All-American Championships double draw this fall. 
 
Capalbo and Espin Buslieman started the spring schedule out 15-0, with two wins coming against ranked opponents. The Utes' duo defeated No. 32 Arthur Fery and Axel Geller of Stanford, 6-3, and two days later defeated No. 17, Yuta Kikuchi and Carl Emil Overbeck of Cal, 7-5. The duo also defeated the No. 25 ranked doubles team of Joshua Charlton and Quinn Vandecasteel, 6-4 this season. 
 
All matches shall be the best-of-three sets. No-ad scoring and a 7-point tiebreaker (first to seven points, must win by two points) at six-games-all will be used for all matches. In doubles, a 10-point match tiebreaker will be played in lieu of a third set.
 
Capalbo, Espin Buslieman, and the rest of the Utes will compete in the NCAA Team Championships starting on Friday, May 6, when they take on Ole Miss in the first round. The match will begin at 1 p.m. MT with streaming information found here
