Homers Guide Cardinal to Rout

May 3, 2022

STANFORD, Calif. – Brock Jones and Carter Graham each homered twice as No. 11 Stanford (26-14) belted a season-best five in a 16-6 victory over UC Davis (4-24) on Tuesday night from Sunken Diamond.

Jones finished the game 3 for 4 with a double, the two homers and a career-best seven RBIs. With two round trippers on Tuesday night, Jones now has nine on the season and four in the last four games. The multi-homer game was the fourth of his career, including his second of this year (April 16 at UCLA).

Jones' career night started with a leadoff walk in the first inning, as he stole second and eventually scored on an RBI-groundout from Graham. His first homer of the night was a two-run shot to highlight a three-run fourth inning before he added a three-run homer in a six-run fifth. The native of Fresno, Calif. capped his night with a two-RBI double in the seventh.

The seven RBIs are the most for a Cardinal player since Kody Huff had eight while hitting a pair of grand slams vs. No. 17 UC Irvine on June 5, 2021.

Graham, who entered Tuesday as the team-leader in home runs with 12, hit solo homers in the third and fifth innings – the second coming as part of back-to-back home runs with Jones. The native of Los Angeles would finish the game 2 for 4 with three RBIs while collecting his second career multi-homer game (February 28 at UTSA).

Freshman Braden Montgomery also homered on Tuesday night, connecting for a two-run shot to finish off a three-run third inning – his 12th home run of the season. Montgomery went 2 for 4 on the night.

Sophomore Tommy Troy notched a three-hit game out of the eighth spot in the order, going 3 for 4 with three runs scored and a double.

Stanford's 16 runs matched a season high set vs. Arizona State on April 10, while the five homers are the most for the Cardinal since connecting for five at California on May 10, 2019.

Stanford used six pitchers in the victory, beginning with starter Joey Dixon. The right-hander tossed two scoreless frames while striking out a pair to pick up the victory in a predetermined bullpen game. With the victory, Dixon improved to 3-3 on the season.

UC Davis starter Kaden Riccomini was saddled with the loss after allowing a run over two innings – dropping to 1-5 on the season.

Stanford will return to Pac-12 play this week, hosting California in a three-game series beginning on Friday at 7 p.m.
