No. 26 Turkovic/Spaka Selected to Compete in NCAA Doubles Championships
TEMPE, Ariz. – Senior Domenika Turkovic and freshman Patricija Spaka, the Sun Devils' top doubles team and the country's No. 26 ranked duo, have been selected to compete in the NCAA Doubles Championships, held May 23-28 at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Champagne, Illinois.
Turkovic and Spaka are one of 32 duos selected to compete in the doubles tournament, the NCAA announced in a release on Tuesday. Play will begin following the competition of the NCAA team championships, which will run from May 20-22.
Draws for the doubles tournament will be determined at a later date.
The senior-freshman pairing has served as a constant for the Sun Devils, which has held down Court 1 in doubles all spring. The two began to earn national recognition after a 5-0 start, ranked in early February by the ITA as the nation's No. 60 doubles team.
Ending the regular season with a 9-4 mark, including a marquee win over UCLA's No. 23 Ava Catanzarite/Abigail Forbes in mid-March, they've been nationally ranked for nearly 12 weeks and are currently listed at No. 26.
It's the first time since 2018 that the Sun Devils are sending a doubles team to the NCAA Tournament, when No. 12 Ilze Hattingh/Lauryn-John Baptiste reached as far as the quarterfinals round.
