Cal Starts Pac-12s Wednesday Against Host Arizona St.

Nikki Zaccaro and the Golden Bears start the Pac-12 Championships on Wednesday against host Arizona State.

CAL STARTS PAC-12 CHAMPIONSHIPS AGAINST HOST ARIZONA STATE
— Cal begins the 2022 Pac-12 Championships by squaring off with host Arizona State in a quarterfinal match between the No. 6 seeded Golden Bears and No. 3 seeded/No. 23 ranked Sun Devils
— The two teams have faced each other in the quarterfinals in each of the last two Pac-12 tournaments with the Bears a winner in Eugene in 2019 and the Sun Devils victorious at Stanford in 2021
— Arizona State holds a 7-4 advantage in the all-time series against Cal that began in 2018 and has won each of the last six meetings between the teams including both contests this season with a wild 21-18 comeback win in Berkeley on March 20 and an 18-10 victory in Tempe on April 10
— Cal had won the previous four games in the series including a three-game sweep in 2019            
CAL'S HISTORY AT PAC-12 CHAMPIONSHIPS
— Cal has an all-time record of 1-3 at the Pac-12 Championships with a loss to Oregon in the quarterfinals of the first event in 2018 and a defeat at the hands of USC in the 2019 semifinals in addition to the split against Arizona State

DRULLINGER, GOSS, ROTHMAN, SCOTT AND ZACCARO HONORED THIS WEEK
— Kennedy Goss, Liz Scott and Nikki Zaccaro were honored by the Pac-12 on Wednesday with Goss and Scott second-team All-Pac-12 selections while Zaccaro was Pac-12 Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year
— Drullinger and Rothman were award winners at the Cal Academic Honors Lunch on Monday with Drulliner taking a Walter A. Haas Jr. Community Service Award for her work with Bears United and Rothman given a Golden Bear Achievement Award for having the highest GPA on the team in 2021-22   
BIG WINS
— Both Cal wins this season have come in dramatic and exciting fashion with the Bears scoring the final six goals in a 16-15 comeback non-conference road victory at UC Davis on April 16 and with electricity in the air at FTX Field at California Memorial Stadium on April 1 for the Cal Lacrosse Youth Inclusion & Awareness Game when the Golden Bears sent a season-high crowd of 598 home happy with a hard-fought 14-12 Pac-12 victory over Oregon      

ZACCARO CAL'S CAREER LEADER IN GAMES PLAYED AND ASSISTS
— Fifth-year senior Nikki Zaccaro has broken Cal career records for both games played and assists in 2022 with current totals of 78 games played and 91 assists, while she is also Cal's active career leader in games started (67), goals (70), points (161), shots (208) and shots on goal (136)           

FOURSOME LEADING THE OFFENSE
— Liz Scott, Maya Lawliss, Amanda Morse and Nikki Zaccaro have combined to score 115 of the team's 169 goals (68.0%), contribute 39 of 65 assists (60.0%) and tally 154 of 234 points (65.8%)
    
CAL, GOSS GOOD AT DRAW CONTROLS
— Cal is looking to win the draw control battle for the fourth consecutive season with both the Golden Bears and their opponents having won 257 draw controls
— Kennedy Goss paces Cal and co-leads the Pac-12 with 74 draw controls to rank tied for fourth on the Golden Bears' all-time single-season list and has moved to within seven of the all-time single-season record of 81 set by Eliza Christman in 2019
— Goss had a career-high-tying 10 draw controls in 2022 victories both against Oregon and at UC Davis       
    
STRONG SCHEDULE
— Eleven of Cal's first 17 games have been against seven teams ranked in the IWLCA/Inside Lacrosse Top 25 at some point in 2022 (Arizona State, Colorado, Denver, Navy, Stanford, USC,  Virginia)
