May 7, 2022

EUGENE, Ore. — Free passes hurt Oregon on Friday night at Oregon State in a 5-1 Pac-12 Conference loss at Goss Stadium.
Four of the five Beavers who scored reached base on a walk before eventually crossing home plate. The fifth scored on a two-out double in the bottom of the eighth after reaching on a hit and moving to second on the Ducks' 11th walk of the game.
How It Happened: Oregon State took an early lead with a run in the bottom of the second, but Oregon answered with a run in the top of the third to tie the game.
Gavin Grant reached on a one-out walk, moved to third on a Tanner Smith base hit through the right side before scoring on a Drew Cowley ground out.
Oregon State took the lead back in the fourth inning, scoring two runs without the benefit of a hit. Oregon starter RJ Gordon walked the first two batters in a heavy downpour, before loading the bases with a one-out hit-by-pitch. After a rain delay ended Gordon's night, Christian Ciuffetelli walked the first two batters he faced to give the Beavers a 3-1 lead.
Oregon (28-17, 13-9 Pac-12) threatened in the top of the seventh loading the bases. Josh Kasevich and Anthony Hall led off the inning with back-to-back singles. After a pair of strikeouts, Grant walked to load the bases but the Ducks couldn't capitalize.
OSU (36-9, 16-6 Pac-12) added a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth.
