No. 1 USC Beach Volleyball Shoots Past Seminoles to Move into NCAA Winner’s Final

May 7, 2022

GULF SHORES, Ala. – The top-seeded and No. 1-ranked USC beach volleyball team (35-1) produced a 3-1 win over fifth-seeded No. 4 Florida State (30-10) in the 2022 NCAA Championship Winner's Bracket Semifinal at Gulf Shores Beach on Saturday, May 7.

The Trojans advance to the Winner's Bracket Final to face third-seeded No. 2-ranked UCLA (34-7) at 3 p.m. CT (1 p.m. PT) on ESPN2.

USC extended its winning streak to 34 duals—the second longest streak in program history—and improved to 17-5 all-time against Florida State with a four-match win streak over the Seminoles. The Trojans also improve to 21-4 all-time in duals at the NCAA Championship and to 28-8 in matches played in Gulf Shores.

USC scored the first point of the dual from the No. 3 position where Delyanie Maple and Julia Scoles made short work of their opponents Anna Long and Kate Privett in a 21-6, 21-10 victory. It was the seventh straight win for Maple-Scoles as the duo improves to 35-1 on the season and moves into 12th place in USC history for most wins by a pair.

Florida State evened the dual score with a win at court two when Alaina Chacon and Madison Fitzpatrick got a 21-19, 21-18 win over Megan Kraft and Sammy Slater to snap the Trojans' 25-match win streak and hand the pair its first loss of the season (25-1).

In tight battles at the other positions, USC put the go-ahead point on the board with a win at the No. 4 position when twin sisters Audrey Nourse and Nicole Nourse got a 21-19, 24-22 win over Morgan Chacon and Jordan Polo. It's the eighth straight win for the Nourse twins (24-4 overall) as they become just the fourth Trojan pair ever to record 60 wins (60-10 all-time).

At the top court, Tina Graudina and Hailey Harward had the clinching point with a three-set win over Maddie Anderson and Brook Bauer, 21-12, 12-21, 15-9. Graudina and Harward win their 28th straight match to improve to 29-1 on the season.

With the dual clinched, play was suspended at the No. 5 position. There, Mollie Ebertin and Sunny Villapando dropped a close 21-19 decision to Caitlin Moon and Raelyn White in the first set but battled it out for a 22-20 win in the second to force a third set, which never got started as the final horn sounded.

All remaining duals at the NCAA Championship will be shown live on ESPN2. Live streams of all courts can be found at WatchESPN.com.
