Bears Drop Series Finale With No. 25 Wildcats
BERKELEY – California dropped the series finale, 5-2, to No. 25 Arizona on Sunday afternoon at Levine-Fricke Field.
The Bears (28-24-1, 8-13 Pac-12) got a home run from Sona Halajian, her 13th of the year, and the first triple of the season off the bat of Tatum Anzaldo in the loss. The Wildcats improved to 32-18 overall and 7-14 in Pac-12 play with the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Arizona got on the board first in the third, scoring four runs on a pair of home runs. Cal, however, battled back as they've done all season.
Anzaldo led off the frame with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly from Acacia Anders to get the Bears on the scoreboard. Halajian followed with her second home run of the weekend, crushing a moonshot way over the wall in left center to make it 4-2 after four complete.
The Wildcats got one back on a solo home run of their own in the fifth and it was 5-2. Cal loaded the bases in the sixth with two down, but a groundout ended the frame and the Bears weren't able to rally in the seventh.
The Bears travel to UCLA for the final series of the regular season, beginning on Thursday, May 12 with a 7 pm first pitch from Easton Stadium on the Pac-12 Networks.
