BERKELEY – Two California student-athletes were named to the 2022 Academic All-District® Baseball Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday.

Golden Bear outfielders Jag Burden and Nathan Manning joined 11 other student-athletes from schools in the states of Arizona, California, Oregon and Washington on the District 8 First Team. The Academic All-District® teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

Burden, a sophomore from Huntington Beach, California, and Manning, a junior from Mission Viejo, California, have been consistent faces in both left field and center field during the Bears' 2022 campaign. It is the second consecutive year that Manning has been named to the Academic All-District® team, while Burden is a first-time honoree.

Burden, who has not declared a major, maintained the highest grade-point average on Cal's baseball squad during the 2021-22 academic year. The left-hander is slashing .233/.273/.383 with six extra-base hits and 12 runs batted in over 26 games played. Burden has started 33 of the 59 career games he's played in since the start of the 2021 season.

Manning, a political science major, has started 26 times in 37 games played in 2022. While slashing .242/.324/.347, Manning has totaled 16 runs scored, 11 RBI, four doubles and two home runs offensively. A two-year starter, Manning has split time between left field and center field over the course of 90 career games played.

Cal has had at least two baseball student-athletes earn spots on the Academic All-District® team in each of the past three years.

Burden, Manning and their fellow Academic All-District® first team honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in June.
